Drawing I - Day Seven

Spring 2012, It is a basic drawing class, we usually use 18X24" sheets of sketchbook paper with charcoal, at this point in the class.
The class is 2 1/2 hours, so these drawings were done in that time (unless it was one of the homework assignments, which I will say) sometimes slightly less time if there was a lecture before hand. If a work is unfinished it is because that is how much time we had to work on it.

The exercise this day was to learn to generalize drawings before getting down to details. The teacher would put up a picture on the projector, it started out really blurry and we would work on putting down the general value, over the hour he slowly would make the picture clearer and clearer, allowing us to add more detail, as we saw what the shapes were actually turning out to be. Much like Day 6, [link], but this day the teacher had the picture flipped upside down, which is why it is displayed here upside down.
I am not sure what this painting was called or who it was by, so if anyone knows, let me know so I can link to the original painting.
